This is absolutely true that gentlemen must wear custom clothes. If you have even a shred of doubt then next time go to a shop and try to buy a French cuff dress shirt! Even buying an ordinary shirt might be a problem if you are particular, and who is not particular when it comes to buying your clothes anyways?
Somehow, the shops are infatuated with a fixation regarding what men should wear and not what they might want to wear. When you go for a custom shirt you are the boss! You get to decide everything about that custom shirt, about the fabric and the shade and color, the way the collar should be and how many pockets it should have. If it’s a French cuff dress shirt then you must have the last word on the kind of French cuff you like and whether it should be the square, rounded or contoured.
